Where do you live?: Florida
I am not certain as to which post I should have posted this question under. So, please bear with me if this is not the appropriate forum for it.
I have installed VS2008 SP1 / MSSQLServer 2008 (Developer Edition) on 2 different O/S (Windows XP SP2 and Vista Home Premium). No domain, just a workgroup.
And now for the question......It pertains to permissions that need to be applied to accounts that run the MSSQL, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS and SQLAgent services. Also, there are a whole bunch of other accounts and permissions that are at play here.
The only way I can deploy SSRS reports and SSAS projects is if I run VS2008 as ..... "run as Administrator". Isn't it possible to deploy as a non administrator. If so, what permissions to what objects are required ?
Once deployed, when I try to access the Report Server - in my case it is -- http://localhost/ReportServer I am required to provide a username/pwd - and regardless of what windows account I provide, I get the following Reporting Services error - "The permissions granted to 'account name is here ' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)
If I try to connect to the Report Manager - in my case - http://locahost/Reports I do connect, but again, regardless of which account I use (administrator or any other), I do not see any folders and reports that I have published.
Also, since I am using 2008, under the SSRS node in SQL Management Studio I do not see HOME as is shown in the videos (2005). Consequently, I have no way of assigning roles (such as browser, content manager) to the accounts.
It may be very helpful to have a document (and I will be more than happy to put it together if I can get my issues answered) which states clearly the permissions required by the different accounts (e.g. all the service accounts, the unattended execution account, the Report Services Configuration screen also asks for some additional accounts under "Current Report Server Database credential" and also one for "Current Report Server Database".
Also, permissions on the Report Server databases need to be setup for developers who want to deploy. Permissions also need to be setup for users who need access to the Reports via the Report Manager URL.
These are all permission related querries and I would appreciate help on these. I have spent about 2 days and now it seems like I am thrashing.
Oh and yes - Scott W. your videos are really good (thank you!) and I look forward to 2008 videos.
